M.C. Overalls England’s Oldest Workwear Brand Celebrates its Community Of Crafters

Established in 1908, England’s oldest workwear brand, M.C.Overalls believe in the power of self-expression, nurturing creativity and the value of working hard. Creating durable, gender-neutral and versatile daily staples. Clothes to work hard for the hard-working. Their latest campaign combines the values of the past to champion its current community of creators. The creative explores the brand’s mission statement of ‘We Work Hard’ through a literal interpretation of the product being a blank canvas, combining this with analogue photography techniques and using subjects close to the brand and its values. The brand’s distinctive style of heritage workwear staples with a modern twist is just as at home adorning a model on the catwalk in Paris as it is on the back of a brewer...

Tried & Tested Thameen London Bohemian Infusion Fragrance

Inspired by the stories of the Piazza at Covent Garden in the 19th and early 20th centuries when it was a playground for sinful and decadent pleasures, Thameen London, under the “artistic residency” of Christopher Chong, focuses on the lifestyles of the dandies and literati intoxicated with substances for hallucinatory carnal pleasures, immersing into a perversive playground at the cafés and pubs with other social underlings, like the thespians of the nearby Drury Lane and West End theatres. Remembering anecdotes and historical stories from his PhD research on Subversive Fashion, Sexuality and Semiotics, Chong reminisces, “I’ve always been drawn to the psychoanalytical angle of the subculture and underworld of the dandies and flâneur. I invited world renowned Master Perfumer, Maurice...

Menswear Product of the Week The Dries Van Noten Clashing Shirt

Dries Van Noten is a master of pattern, colour and detail. He puts things together that shouldn’t work, but they do. Take for example, this striped shirt. The simple addition of the fuchsia pink floral on the placket and around the hem lifts this into fashion artistry. Left – Dries Van Noten – Ladderstitch Shirt – £535 I recently visited Dries Van Noten’s flagship store in Antwerp. The first Dries store I have ever been to. Opened in 1989, but built in 1881, it was formerly the ‘Het Modepaleis’ (the Fashion Palace) and is a listed landmark and historically home to a gentleman’s outfitters, a peer of Dries’ grandfather. The wooden counters, tiled floors and wide curved windows – all of which are unique – helps the building retain it...

Label To Know Delos

Based in London, Delos is a luxurious travel focussed label. The collection of menswear and womenswear, born in the Mediterranean, is designed for the constant traveller.  Left – Delos – Rambert Bow Tie Silk Shirt – £475 Founded by Artem del Castillo, it is named after the mythological Greek island of Delos (Δήλος), said to be the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. Meaning ‘clear’ or ‘brought to light’ Delos explores a spectral palette with fluid and non-constrictive silhouettes. For Spring Summer 2023, the collection looks at the art of Shibori, the Japanese technique of dyeing fabric to produce different colour spectrums – think ombré bleeds on silk. Del Castillo says, “I created Delos in appreciation of artisanal craftmanship and...

Menswear Product Of The Week The Loewe Flow Trainer

I’ve been looking for new trainers recently. While there’s a lot out there, many are very bulky, heavy and ugly. Don’t even get me started on the rubber boot trend. These from Loewe – it’s always Loewe atm – were the nicest I saw. Made in Italy and decent quality, they are a classic design with the added General Electric swirl of the Loewe logo. While they have that 70s thing going on, the colouration and suede reminds me of the 90s. It’s very my early-days-at-Wallpaper*-magazine eating whatever the cook had made that day and wearing Camper Pelotas. Good times. Get The Look Shiv Roy’s Tom Ford Padlock

According to Google search data, Sarah Snook’s character, Shiv Roy, has the most influential fashion in Succession with over 3,240 estimated monthly searches for her style. Shiv also has the most fashion-related searches out of any fictional businesswoman currently on TV. Wearing funeral black – no spoiler intended! – in episode 3 of the final season (4), it was her gold padlock that stood out. Tom Ford has made the padlock one of his eponymous brand’s signature details, usually found on his women’s stilettos. Shiv Roy in her Tom Ford suit Tom Ford Suit Knowing ChicGeek’s are style magpies and take their inspiration from anywhere, we thought a small, simple gold padlock from the internet would make this an easy look to emulate and also add an...

What’s happened to fashion’s personalities?

As the gavel came down in New York, and the memorial service ended in London, fashion said goodbye to two of its biggest and most recognisable personalities. The Collection of André Leon Talley, one of Anna Wintour’s most trusted editors at American Vogue, featuring artworks by Warhol – Talley worked at his magazine, Interview – and ALT monogrammed luggage (lots of it) was sold by Christie’s in New York. Talley’s larger-than-life character and presence, not to mention his kaftans and fur, made him an instant fashion celebrity. On first name terms with the world, the collection smashed estimates, fetching nearly $1.4 Million. In London, the grand dame of British fashion, Vivienne Westwood, was remembered at a memorial service at Southwark Cathedral. Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham...

The Hair Consult offers a paid-for ‘Consult Concierge’ service with one of their in-house haircare experts and then sends a bespoke prescription recommending products featured on The Hair Consult website. TheChicGeek says “I told them my hair was short and is thin and balding – nothing a trip to Istanbul wouldn’t sort out! – and conditioner makes my hair greasy. This was The Hair Consult...
