Kurt Geiger Oxford Street Opens

British accessories brand, Kurt Geiger, launches its flagship store in the centre of London’s Oxford Street. Within the doors of the 2,916 sq. ft. space is a new concept envisioned by Kurt Geiger’s Chief Creative Officer Rebecca Farrar-Hockley and brought to life by architect Stefano Ripoli, formerly of David Collins Studio. Offset by cool concrete ceilings and walls, retained from the inherited (G-Star) interior, Kurt Geiger’s playful British spirit and love of colour is evident throughout the new store. Rainbow-hued glass, reminiscent of stained-glass windows, frame the spaces. Illuminated antique brass shelving and display cases with eccentrically fringed accents hosts the full range of accessories, footwear and gifting for men and women. The focal point of the floor is without...

Sabato De SELL, SELL, SELL Sarno (Gucci)

Love it or hate it, there was no denying that Gucci had a ‘look’ under Alessandro Michele. When Kering bravely decided he was for the chop before sales slid too much, stepping into his snaffle loafers was an unknown, Sabato De Sarno. Eight months later and we got our first glimpse of the Italian mega brand’s new direction. What Gucci does is hugely influential. Too often, after a period of strong growth and design momentum, a creative director comes in and does a complete 180 degree switch as though to say everything before it wasn’t right. Tisci did this at Burberry. De Sarno has done the right thing, he’s cleaned it up and made it feel cool but kept all the much loved Gucci tropes running through it. Even some of Michele’s later sparkle. Titled ‘Ancora’ – it can mean...

Splash Or Cash? The Acid Yellow Wallabees

Daniel Lee’s first collection for Burberry has dropped, and, while prices are ridiculous, it has got the fashion crowd looking. When he was at Bottega Veneta he was very good at bringing a new colour – read difficult – into the mainstream. The Italian brand is still milking that green. While the Burberry brand is pushing blue in its advertising, there is also this acidic yellow running throughout which isn’t far on the spectrum from the BV green. These furry shearling Burberry ‘creeper’shoes are very similar to a classic Clarks Wallabee at a fraction of the price. Burberry calls the colour ‘Manilla’, and, in this shaggy length it’s a definite thriller. Clarks’ is more a green yellow and in corduroy like suede with a...
